Adding An Eighth Note Kick At The End Of A Level 0 Groove

In this lesson you will learn a simple variation on the original nine basic grooves learned at level 0 that involves adding an additional bass drum on the very last '+' count of the bar. This kind of variation is great as with minimal effort you can have another nine groove patterns you can apply. When you get on to applying groove parts within longer structured examples or start constructing two bar grooves, this concept. will become even more useful.

The original nine basic grooves have been re written below with this new idea applied. I have shown both eighth and quarter note right hands and have used a variety of different voices for the right hand. At the bottom of the page you will find a list of links to lessons that may be useful when learning this part as well as a collection of lessons you may also find interesting.

You may notice that basic groove 8 is missing from this list, that is because it already has a bass drum in this new position. Basic groove 6 is going to pose more of a challenge than other exercises due to the snare already on the count you will be placing a bass drum. Rather than removing the snare, play a snare and kick at the same time.
