In this groove construction lesson you will be taking the Fake Double Kick movement learned previously and applying it to the time signature of 5/8. The previous lesson focused on the co-ordination elements of the part so it is fairly essential to cover this first. In this lesson I will just be presenting four grooves using the concept, a note on how the groove has been built is included with each pattern. Remember, the part is played open handed.
Example 1
This groove uses eighth note hi hats and the snare is played with the right hand. This part has a compound time feel.
Example 2
This groove uses eighth note hi hats and the snare is played with the left hand. The part has a simple time feel.
Example 3
This groove uses dotted quarter note hi hats and the snare is played with the right hand. A compound feel is used.
Example 4
This groove uses quarter note hi hats and the snare is played with the left hand. A simple time feel is used.
