In this lesson you will be expanding your knowledge of grooves in the time signature of 9/8 by applying a simple time feel. As there is an '8' as the bottom number in this signature you would expect to see a compound feel so this is a technically odd groove construction method. It will actually end up feeling like a bar of 4/4 with an extra eighth note added when played on its own. Things get particularly cool when this style of part is played under a piece in 9/8 that follows the compound feel as it will create a syncopated opposing rhythm against the music.
Listed below are six example grooves following this concept. As always, use the given ideas as a starting point to create you own grooves. At the bottom of the page you will find a list of lessons that will be useful if you find yourself struggling with the part.
