4/4 Syncopated 'R L L F R L' Fills Orchestrated Once Per Drum

The fill concept presented in this lesson is a very simple way of creating a syncopated fill in 4/4 using the 'R L L F R L' sticking. All you will be doing is playing the full pattern twice orchestrated on a different voice each time you start a new block of sticking. As with all six note syncopated patterns like this, that leaves four sixteenth notes at the end of the bar for you to do what you like with.

Below I have listed several fills that follow this construction idea. As you will quickly realize, if you are familiar with the sticking these fills are very simple. Remember to use the 'RLLFRL' sticking through all examples.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get the fills up to a tempo of at least 135bpm.
  2. Apply the examples as fills in a Four or Eight bar structured piece.
  3. Experiment with constructing your own fills using this concept.
