Starting A 4/4 Fill With An 'R L L F' Movement

The fill construction idea presented in this lesson is a way of applying the sticking and will simple involve playing one block of the shape at the start of the bar. The rest of the bar will then be filled with whatever fill you like. These ideas should be fairly straight forward if you are familiar with this grouping but I will try and throw a few curve balls in to keep the parts interesting. As with all concept lessons, use this as a starting point to create your own fills based off the given idea.

Below I have listed several fills that follow this construction idea.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get the fills up to a tempo of at least 135bpm.
  2. Apply the examples as fills in a Four or Eight bar structured piece.
  3. Experiment with constructing your own fills using this concept.
