Through this fill construction lesson you will be learning some common single stroke sixteenth sextuplet rolls where accented snares are added on '+' counts. Moving rolls around the kit using various note values is a very basic concept, so adding accents like this is a great way to break a fill up and create variation in your fills. As you are playing sextuplets this is going to be pretty fast, start out at a lower tempo and gradually build up speed and you get comfortable with the patterns. Those snare accents should really stand out so lay into them a little harder.
There are six examples of these sextuplet rolls given below to give you an idea of how the movement works, once you have learned these have a go at creating your own. You will notice I have built some of the parts by combining straight rolls with the accented version, this is worth exploring further. I haven't given examples combining this with rolls using other note values, you can create some very interesting fills by switching from, for example, sixteenth notes into the accented sextuplets.a
