'Crazy Town' Sixteenth Note Grouping Fill

In this lesson you will be learning a one bar fill built using standard sixteenth note rhythm shapes split up with kicks. This is based on the 14th bar of the song Crazy Town by Jason aldean and you can here this at the 35 second mark in the video linked. Through the page you will learn the fill by splitting it up into one beat blocks to ensure you play each section accurately. At the bottom of the page you will find a collection of links to other lessons you may find useful when learning this part.

The full fill looks like this:

The fill

Through the rest of the page this will be broken down into its individual beats to ensure all parts of the fill are played accurately.

Beat 1

Beat 1 is just a hi hat and kick played on the '1 +'. Whilst this is a simple movement, spend some time making sure the hands and feet line up exactly.

Beat 1

Beat 2

For beat 2 you play a 'triangle' movement where a kick is placed on the 'a' count. Focus here should be on placing that kick exactly in place.

Beat 2

Beat 3

The third beat is a '1e a' rhythm where the numbered count is played on the snare with the remaning notes on the kick.

Beat 3

Beat 4

The final block uses a '1 +a' style rhythm where the numbered count is played on a snare and crash.

Beat 4

Beats 1 & 2

Next you will start combining the individual blocks, starting with beats 1 and 2.

Beat 1 & 2

Beats 2 & 3

Next up beats 2 and 3, make sure all kicks fall exactly on the appropriate count.

Beat 2 & 3

Beats 3 & 4

And finally beats 3 and 4.

Beat 3 & 4

Now you have worked through the individual sections, go back to the full fill and it should hopefully be much easier to play!
