Three Beat 16th Note Fills At The End Of A 5/4 Bar Starting A Quaver Early

In this lesson you will be extending three beat fills in 5/4, learned in a previous lesson you can find linked below, by a quaver to create an odd and interesting fill length. This concept has previously been applied to the time signatures of 4/4 and 3/4 so it is just a case of getting comfortable with the concept and its timing in the context of the new time signature that needs to be worked on rather than the mechanics of the parts. In 4/4, to achieve this timing you would have started the fill on the '+' count after beat 1. In 5/4 you are going to start a beat later on the '+' after beat 2.

At the bottom of the page you will find a list of links to other lessons you may find useful when learning this part.

When learning these fills, start the pattern slowly and make sure your note and hand placement is accurate first. When you are happy with the movements, then work on building up tempo a bit at a time. Once you can play the part at a good speed (I'd recommend 110bpm plus) try playing an AAAB style pattern all in 5/4 where the 'B' section is your new fill.
