In this lesson you will be building one bar fills by applying a simple orchestration to the 'RLLFRL' sticking pattern. This will just involve playing the part with all right hands on cymbals and lefts on either snares or a combination of toms. You can find a link to various other lessons on this sticking pattern, included a basic walk through of the movement, at the bottom of the page.
Whilst the fills created here sound good in most contexts, they work particularly well against a more straight rhythm part as that will further emphasize the syncopation. Use the five ideas given below as a starting point to creating your own syncopated fills.
