8th Note Triplet Subdivision Exercise

In this lesson you will be learning a development of This Level 1 Exercise and the same subdivision principle will be applied but this time within an eighth note triplet. This means you will be switching from eighth note triplets to sixteenth note triplets so the exercise will be significantly faster. Two sets of exercises are shown below, both of which use the same rhythm. In the first straight single stroke rolls are used and the second is based more within subdivision. Keep an eye on the sticking marks below the bar.

As with all of these sorts of exercises, start with a lower tempo and build up speed using the Two Minute Rule.

Subdivided Sticking

TASK

  1. Aim for a tempo of around 120bpm but push as high as you can whilst keeping accuracy and good technique.
  2. Try adding in straight eighths or sixteenths.
