In this lesson you will be playing through the grooves covered in our Introduction To Grooves lesson series, only this time they will be played in Swing Time.
Remember that because we are playing with a swing feel all eighth notes will be played as eighth note triplets with the second note missing. So the bar on the left of the example below will actually be played as the bar on the right.
Once you have the timing of the hi hat part you can then just match all kick and snares to them.
All grooves below have swung eighth notes, to save space I have excluded the swing time mark but notice that it is implied by the eighth note groupings.
- Learn all grooves above at a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Think about what concepts we applied to our original grooves and create your own variations on these grooves using those ideas.
Why not try our lesson on using a Quarter Note Right Hand in these kind of grooves next.
