This lesson will follow the structure discussed in the 'A A A B' lesson only this time rather then the 'B' being a fill, you are now going to switch to 2/4 for the one bar and continue playing a groove. This means the last bar is two beats shorter than the rest.
The structure for this exercise will look like this:
Written below are five examples of parts you could play for this structured pattern. In all examples the 'B' is a groove in 2/4. A note on how the 'B' section has been constructed is included.
Example 1
Cut the 4/4 groove in half.
Example 2
As above but use the second half of the groove.
Example 3
Play snares and kicks together as quarter notes.
Example 4
In this groove you are playing snares or kicks on the '+' counts as much as possible.
Example 5
Play a snare followed by a kick.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Create your own versions of these patterns.
