In this lesson you will be taking some standard 5/8 grooves and replacing the last two eighth notes with a block of sextuplets. A similar idea has been covered using straight sixteenth notes and you can find a link to this and other useful lessons at the bottom of the page. The burst of sixteenth triplets are pretty quick, slow down each example to ensure note placement is accurate than gradually speed up.
Several examples of this fill construction idea are listed below. Remember to experiment with varying and constructing your own fill ideas using this concept.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises upto a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Play a four bar phrase in 5/8 where the fourth contains a fill. Repeat this phrase over.
- Create your own 5/8 fills using this idea, write down any that you really like.
