In this lesson you will learning a simple variation on the A A B A structure where the time signature is simply switched to 5/8. It is worth reading over this lesson if you haven't already to learn about the point of moving the fill a bar earlier.
The aim of this lesson is just to familiarize you further with this structure, more specifically when playing in the time signature of 5/8. There won't be anything hugely difficult here but it is important to play these patterns over to get yourself familiar with how the placement feels.
The structure for this idea looks like this:
Remember, In this structural idea the 'B' section can be a little more vague. It doesn't have to be a full fill using rolls around the kit and loads of crashes, it could be some kind of variation on the groove where an open hi hat is added or some extra 16th note is included. In the examples below I have used a variety of different construction ideas to show how many different options are available within this pattern. But as always, try to create your own parts based on what has been given.
