In this lesson you will be developing further on our level one lesson on Two Bar Grooves Using Displacement. In that lesson the groove was built by shifting one note in the second bar by an eighth note. This time the same principle will be followed but the movement will be a sixteenth note. This displacement idea has been covered in single bars both moving Forwards and Backwards, I strongly recomend working through these patterns if you haven't already.
As with most concept lessons, the list below is intended to be inspiration for creating your own patterns based on this simple idea. Learn the parts given and think about how you could tweak them to create cooler patterns.
- Learn the grooves above up to a tempo of at least 140bpm.
- Apply the concept to different grooves.
- Create some 4 bar phrases using these grooves.
