For these Single Stroke Seven fills you will just be taking the once per drum orchestration from our initial rudiment lesson series and applying it as a fill in a four bar phrase. In all exercises on this page you will be presented with an 'AAAB' style pattern where 'B' is a single stroke 7 fill using one of the original orchestrations of the rudiment. You will only be using two parts of the kit in each pattern but the semi quaver triplets in the rhythm mean the fills can be quite quick.
For each given part, make sure you can play the fill before you do anything. Take it slow if necessary and remember that the accuracy of your part is far more important than tempo. When playing the full four bars make sure there are no gaps between the groove and fill. Feet have been included in some patterns but feel free to either remove or change them as you wish. I have also shown different lengths of fill in the list below.
REMEMBER the sticking for a single stroke seven is 'R L R L R L R'.
