One Beat Fills In 6/4

In this lesson you will be increasing your familiarity with the Time Signature Of 6/4 by playing one beat fills at the end of the bar. These exercises will essentially be a bar of 4/4 groove followed by a bar of 2/4 with a fill, but all combined into one bar of 6/4.

Various ideas for grooves have been taken from our level 1 and level 2 grooves lessons. A variety of rhythms and rudiments have been used for the fills.

A simple groove with four sixteenth notes for the fill.

A simple groove followed by a fill made up of a flammed sixteenth note grouping.

The groove here uses Offbeat 16th Note Snares and the fill is straight sextuplets on the snare.

This groove uses 16th note right hand decoration and Double 16th Note Bass Drums. The fill is a 16th note grouping with a Drag.

TASK

  • Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises upto a tempo of at least 120bpm.
  • Play a four bar phrase in 6/4 where the fourth contains a one beat fill. Repeat this phrase over.
  • Create your own one beat fill in 6/4.
