Build up your ability to play for ages without getting tired.
The intention of this set of exercises is to improve the stamina of your hands. For the level 1 versions of these exercises we are going to focus on using crotchets and applying various stickings to them. With these exercises being so slow and straight forward, you have the opportunity to work on your hand technique whilst working on the exercises. As well as improving stamina, these kinds of exercises will contribute towards speed also.
For all exercises below start slow, around 70bpm, and use the two minute rule to build up speed. Aim for a top speed of at least 120bpm.
In this exercise you will be playing a bar of crotchets all on the right hand, followed by a bar all on the left hand.
In this exercise you will be using a double stroke roll sticking.
Finally you are going to put all three exercises together to create one super exercise! You start by playing two bars of 2 notes on each hand, then two bars of 3 notes on each hand and finish with two bars of 4 notes on each hand. Then you will repeat.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
In our level 2 hand stamina exercises we will be upping the note values to quavers. See you if you can create some quaver based hand stamina exercises before looking at this lesson.
