Numbered 8th Note Grouping Hand Stamina Exercise

The level 1 hand stamina exercises we provided involved playing various groupings all played as crotchets. For our level 2 exercises we are going to be using quavers.

For all exercises below start slow, around 70bpm, and use the two minute rule to build up speed. Aim for a top speed of at least 130bpm.

Exercise 1

In this exercise you will be playing a bar of quavers in a double stroke roll sticking.

Exercise 1

Exercise 2

In this exercise you will be playing groups of three on each hand. I have used the time signature of 6/8 here.

Exercise 2

Exercise 3

In this exercise you will be playing groups of four on each hand.

Exercise 3

Exercise 4

Here you are playing a full bar of quavers on each hand.

Exercise 4

Exercise 5

Finally you will combine all exercises to create an eight bar long exercise. Remember, when switching from 4/4 to 6/8, eighth notes are played at the same speed. It is only the amount of them and their grouping that changes.

Exercise 5

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.

In our level 3 hand stamina exercises we will be upping the note values to semi quavers. See you if you can create some semi quaver based hand stamina exercises before looking at this lesson.
