A 6/8 groove using a floor tom.
In this lesson you will be learning a two bar groove in 6/8 where the right hand plays on the floor tom and offbeat kicks and snares, ride cymbals and 32nd notes are used to decorate. This will start with a basic version of the part and is then developed into the full groove. There will be four separate modifications made, each of which creates its' own perfectly decent sounding part while increasing the difficulty and complexity slightly.
You can also download a version of this lesson in PDF format. In this pack you also get an example piece using the final the groove as a basis, two variations on the groove and audio files in MP3 format of all drum parts. This also includes a drumless version of the backing track for you to play a long to. You can purchase this for just $2 by clicking the button below.
NOTE that the file size of this pack is 12.5MB.
You will start out with a level 0 style 6/8 Groove where the right hand plays eighth notes on the Floor Tom, the snare is positioned on the usual 4 count and there is only one kick at the start of the pattern.
Add eighth notes on the hi hat pedal using the Left Foot. I really like the combination of hi hat and floor tom, the two contrasting sounds work well together.
Add kicks on the 2 count in both bars. Make sure the new kicks line up with the appropriate right hand and left foot.
