In this short lesson you will learn a variation on the flam accent that switches the single stroke eighth note triplet movement to a reverse triplet, the advantage of which is that each quarter note block is exactly the same. The grace note creates a sort of staggered double stroke roll movement. The two versions below show this with standard and reverse sticking.

Once you are comfortable with the base movement try adding in feet and orchestrating.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all 6 exercises up to a tempo of 135bpm.
  2. Experiment with orchestrating the rudiment.
  3. Experiment with adding feet to the rudiment.
  4. Experiment with applying the rudiment to fills.
