Combining flat flams on the tom and hi hat with a syncopated rhythm.
In this fill construction lesson you will be learning patterns that combine toms and hi hats. The two voices have very different tonal qualities and when combined have a nice full sound. The examples on this page all follow a syncopated '332' rhythm where flat flams are followed by kicks. It is important the flat flams are played exactly in time, there are lessons at the bottom of the page that will help with this.
In this first set the flat flam is played on the first of each occurance of the rhythm with kicks playing all other notes.
In this next set you play flat flams on the first two strokes and again, kicks fill in the gaps.

- Apply different orchestrations to create your own parts.
