The Seven Stroke Roll is a sticking variation of the Single Stroke Seven that replaces some of the single strokes with double strokes. There is also a lot of similarity to the Five Stroke Roll where you played doubles over four 16th notes, this time you are playing doubles over a set of sextuplets.

As with the single stroke seven and five stroke roll, there are two versions of The 7 Stroke Roll. The first starts on the beat and the second ends on the beat. For both of these rhythms there are three stickings you should learn. These are all listed below.


Exercise 1

A 7 Stroke Roll starting on the beat starting on the right hand.

The 7 Stroke Roll in standard sticking.


Exercise 2

A 7 Stroke Roll starting on the beat starting on the left hand.

The 7 Stroke Roll in reverse sticking.


Exercise 3

A 7 Stroke Roll starting on the beat with alternating sticking.

The 7 Stroke Roll in alternate sticking.


Exercise 4

A 7 Stroke Roll ending on the beat starting on the right hand.

The 7 Stroke Roll in standard sticking.


Exercise 5

A 7 Stroke Roll ending on the beat starting on the left hand.
