'+' Count China Accents

In this lesson you will learn another simple idea for creating some variation in a groove, this time by adding china cymbals on '+' counts. This will create a really nice musical part that is really easy to achieve. At the bottom of the page I have linked an article that discusses the china cymbal but to just quickly recap, it is a crash sized cymbal with a bent in rim that has a sharp trashy sound making it perfect for accenting in this way. The china cymbal can be positioned anywhere on the kit but above the floor tom is the most common placement.

Listed below are several grooves with china cymbals on various different '+' counts. There are many different variations on this idea and the parts given below are intended to be inspiration for you to create your own versions of. You will notice that quite often there is a rest in the right hand either straight before or after a china cymbal, this is to allow you to get back to the hi hat in a more comfortable and relaxed movement.
