This is a follow on lesson from our Imitation Eights Using Single Strokes, make sure you have covered this lesson before proceeding.
The aim of this lesson is to develop your ability to play double kick for longer whilst improving foot co ordination. To achieve this you are going to take the exercises learned in the lesson linked above but use groups of sixteen instead of eight. This means each burst of double kick will last longer and will be far more challenging on your foot stamina.
Eighth Note Exercise
Play two bars of eighth notes on the hands followed by two bars on the feet.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get the exercise up to a tempo of around 150bpm.
Sixteenth Note Exercise
Then the same again but as one bar of 16th hands followed by one bar of 16th feet.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get the exercise up to a tempo of around 120bpm.
Eighth Notes To Sixteenth Notes
I'll finish this lesson with an exercise where the first four bars are played as the eighth note exercise and the second two bars are the sixteenth note exercise. This is a great way to try and push the tempo of your sixteenth notes.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get the exercise up to a tempo of around 130bpm.
