This lesson will follow the structure discussed in the 'A A A B' lesson only this time rather then the 'B' being a fill, you are now going to switch to 3/4 for the one bar and continue playing a groove.
The structure for this exercise will look like this:
Written below are five examples of parts you could play for this structured pattern. In all examples the 'B' is a groove in 3/4. A note on how the 'B' section has been constructed is included.
Example 1
Cut a quarter note off the 4/4 groove. This means you get three bass drums in a row so watch out for that.
Example 2
End the groove on a quarter note snare.
Example 3
Use the generic 3/4 waltz pattern.
Example 4
In this groove you are playing snares or kicks on the '+' counts as much as possible.
Example 5
Play snares on the numbered counts and kicks on the '+' counts.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Create your own versions of these patterns.
