Linear '332' Groove In Swing Time

In this groove concept you will be creating syncopated linear patterns, all using a '332' movement and all in a swung rhythm. A linear pattern is one where only one voice is used at a time, so patterns like the standard level 0 grooves wouldn't be linear as they have kicks and snares falling together. As mentioned above, the phrasing used for this set of patterns will be '332'. Remember, these numbers refer to the amount of notes you will find in each grouping.

The timing of these parts is important. All parts are played with a swung timing, meaning every block of two is really a triplet with a stroke played on the first and third note of the block. You can read more about this in the lesson linked at the bottom of the page.

Listed below are examples of grooves using this concept. This list starts simple then gets more complex through the page. Phrase marks have been added in the first example to show how the phrasing falls. Links have been given at the bottom of the page to lessons that may help the learning process. Watch out for accent placement in these grooves, they will work just as well if you choose to ignore the accents but will sound that little bit more interesting if you add them.
