5/8 Grooves With A '2233' Right Hand

In this lesson you will be learning some more syncopation ideas for grooves in 5/8. Through this page all patterns will have a right hand playing a '2233' rhythm on various different parts of the kit. Similar ideas have been applied in other time signatures and with other rhythms. links to these are given at the bottom of the page.

We'll start out with two simple versions, the first using a simple time snare placement under the right hand rhythm.

Then a second version using a compound snare placement.

Spend time familiarizing yourself with these two parts to get a feel for the syncopated rhythm. Listed below are several versions of these parts with various groove ideas applied underneath.

TASK

  1. Learn all grooves upto a tempo of at least 125bpm.
  2. Experiment with different orchestrations of the base rhythm.
  3. Apply different right hand rhythms and orchestrations.
  4. Apply these pattern within a longer phrase.
