Standard Triplet With Left Hand Accents

In this lesson you will be learning some simple accent placements for the standard triplet. In all of the exercises presented on this page you will only be accenting with left hands. Remember when accenting to make the note with the '>' symbol above it louder than the rest. You can achieve this by lifting your stick slightly higher than normal and pushing down with it a little more.

Various different combinations of this movement have been given below. Remember to use the standard triplet 'R L L' sticking throughout.

  • Using the 2 Minute Rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of 140bpm.
  • Experiemnt with further combinations of quarter note accents.
  • Experiment with various different feet patterns in all exercises.
  • Reverse the sticking of each exercise to 'L R R' and accent the rights.
