Splitting A Full Bar Fill With A Crash

In this lesson you will be playing full bar fills that are split with two crash cymbals, one on beat 1 and a second on beat 3. This will feel a bit like playing two half bar fills together. Four examples of this idea are shown below.

Example 1

A fill with two even crashes

Example 2

A fill with two even crashes

Example 3

A fill with two even crashes

Example 4

A fill with two even crashes

Notice in example 4 there is a snare and crash when we said at the start we were using bass drums and crash? Rules are made to be broken!

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all four examples up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
  2. Add each example into one of the structures we have covered previously.
  3. Create your own fill pattern using this concept.
