In this groove construction lesson you are going build parts around a specific right hand rhythm. This will be a run of straight eighth notes that has the first, fourth and sixth notes accented with a ride bell. This will fit in line with the first half of the pulse of the compound time version of the groove and some interesting sounding parts can be created when you use this accent pattern in a simple time feel. The intention of this lesson is to start adding some more musical elements into your 7/8 patterns.
Listed below are several examples of grooves that use this right hand part. At the bottom of the page I have provided a list of links to other lessons that may be useful when learning these parts.
- Learn the grooves above up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Create your own grooves using the ideas given above.
- Use the concept as part of a phrased example.
