'A A B C B C' Structure

In this lesson you will be learning a new six bar phrase where the last two bars of a four bar pattern are repeated. This is the structure for this pattern:

A six bar phrase made up of three parts.

As with the previous 6 bar phrase, the second line is shorter to highlight the 'cut short' feel this structure can have. As mentioned in the previous lesson repeat marks are sometimes used to abbreviate this to one line, however with this specific structure it is unlikely that will happen.

Listed below are several example of this structure with a drum kit part applied. I have used a variety of different construction ideas but feel free to create your own parts.

Example 1

A six bar phrase made of two parts.

Example 2

A six bar phrase made of two parts.

Example 3

A six bar phrase made of two parts.

Example 4

A six bar phrase made of two parts.

Example 5

A six bar phrase made of two parts.

TASK

  • Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.
  • Create your own versions of these patterns based on the original phrase.
