'RLLFRL' In 6/8 Fills With The First Note Orchestrated

The fill concept presented in this lesson is a very simple way of creating fills in 6/8 using the 'R L L F R L' sticking. All you will be doing is playing the full pattern twice on the snare with that first right hand moved to a different part of the kit. As this is a six note grouping, it fits nicely within the bar of 6/8.

Below I have listed several fills that follow this construction idea. As you will quickly realize, if you are familiar with the sticking these fills are very simple. Remember to use the 'RLLFRL' sticking through all examples.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get the fills up to a tempo of at least 135bpm.
  2. Apply the examples as fills in a Four or Eight bar structured piece.
  3. Experiment with constructing your own fills using this concept.
