'A A B C' Structure In 7/8 With A '1 +a' Right Hand Rhythm

In this lesson you will be shown five 'AABC' patterns in 7/8, all of which have a '1 + a' rhythm on the right hand. The point of these exercises is to both improve your abiltiy to play in this time signature and to give you some ideas for applying these parts practically. At the bottom of the page you will find some useful links that will help the learning process.

There won't really be anything new in terms of part construction, this page will be all about maintaining that right hand pattern while various other things are happening. Use all given examples as a starting point to create your own versions of the part.

TASK

  • Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.
  • Create your own versions of these patterns based on the original phrase.
  • Apply the same constant double kick idea to various other phrasing ideas.
