16th Note 'Snare Kick Kick Snare' One Beat Groove Building Block

In this lesson you will be learning one beat groove 'building block that involves a specific movement between the right hand and right foot that is intended to provide a little decoration around the back beat. This idea can be applied to any time signature and genre and there are options for adding ghost notes and accents so this is a very versatile idea.

The shape will start on the back beat of the groove and will add a 16th note kick immediately after, followed by a second kick and another snare both played as 16th notes. All snares will be played with the left hand. The one beat pattern looks like this:

This will then have some form of right hand part added. This is demonstrated below with crotchets and quavers added:

Spend some time familiarizing yourself with these two basic building blocks. When you are ready work through the list below which involves taking this building block and applying it to some one bar grooves in 4/4. Notice that in some cases the non backbeat 16th notes are played as Ghost Notes and sometimes accents are added also. Having a rest after that last snare sounds particularly good in this concept.
