Single Stroke 16ths With Feet

This lesson is a continuation of our our Single Stroke Roll Sticking and Single Stroke 8ths With Feet lessons, the content will be much more straight forward if you have covered these previously.

The exercises in this lesson will be very similar to our previous lesson on adding feet but this time the note values will be doubled. Through all the hands will be playing sixteenth notes and in the first set if exercises the feet will play quarter notes and the second set eighth notes. The hands will use a single stroke sticking at all points and a note is included to describe what is going on with the feet.

The aim with these patterns is to improve your hand - foot syncronization and co ordination whilst further developing your hand technique.

Exercise 1

In this first exercise you play a right hand on the snare with a bass drum on beat 1 then again on beats 2 3 and 4, the rest of the bar is filled with a normal single stroke roll. So as with all previous exercises, whenever you play a foot it will be at the same time as the right hand:

Exercise 2

The second exercise is the same only the bass drum is substituted for a left foot on the hi hat:

Exercise 3

In this exercise you will play alternating bass drums and hi hats with the feet:

Exercise 4

And finally, the same as the previous exercise but starting with a hi hat:

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all 4 exercises up to a tempo of 130bpm.
  2. Take two of the exercises above and turn them into a 2 bar long repeated pattern.
