In this lesson you will continue learning some basic fills in the time signature of 6/8 by modifying the full bar sixteenth note fills learned previously to only fill half a bar. A link to this lesson and other lessons you may find useful can be found at the bottom of this page. As this lesson is just a shortening of previous fill ideas it should be pretty straight forward. Remember that when learning fills you need to be able to switch from a groove to the fill and back again without any breaks in timing. Counting can be very helpful when working on this as can playing a long with a metronome. When counting 16th notes in 6/8 you count the 8th notes as numbers and the 16th notes between with an '+'. So to count a full bar of 16th notes in 6/8 you would use '1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 +'.
To create a half bar fill in 6/8 you will play the '1 2 3' as groove then the '4 5 6' as fill, so the fill starts where the main snare beat would normally sit. Listed below are several example fills using this contruction method, use these given parts as a starting point to build your own fill patterns.
