The Single Stroke Five Moving In Quarter Note Blocks

As discussed previously many times, it is important to orchestrate your rudiments to develop your ability to use them around the kit, making it easier for them to be applied to your playing. In this version of the single stroke 5 you will be taking the standard sticking rudiment starting on the beat and switching drum on every numbered count. This shouldn't be too difficult as these will be very familiar movements and there are a couple of big gaps within the bar.

I have shown several versions of this orchestration concept below. Feet and sticking have been included in each.

Exercise 1

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 2

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 3

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 4

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 5

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 6

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all 6 exercises up to a tempo of at least 135bpm.
  2. Create your own versions of these exercises by mixing up the orchestration and feet patterns.
