In this lesson you will be learning a variation on the three bar AAB pattern learned previously at this level. To construct this new version you will take a similar approach to the level 1 ABAC style patterns but you with one of the 'A' sections removed, meaning you will be playing something different in every bar. As with previous patterns that follow a similar idea, these parts should tie together otherwise you run the risk of sounding like you don't know what you are doing! The way I tend to approach this is by having the B section be a sort of transition between the groove and fill, so it will be a bit of both.

This structure could be used in similar circumstances discussed in the previous three bar phrase lesson linked above. Listed below are several example of this structure with a drum kit part applied. I have used a variety of different construction ideas but feel free to create your own parts. All patterns on this page are in the time signature of 4/4, separate lessons will be given for different time signatures.
