This lessons follows on from our 16th Note 7 Stroke Roll Sticking and Five Stroke Roll With Each Hand On A Different Drum lessons. It will be much easier to follow if you are familiar with the content from that lesson. The construction conept is also quite similar to that used in our Moving In Crotchet Blocks lesson.
In this orchestration concept the rudiment will be played around the kit switching voice every second note, so each double stroke will be played on a different voice. The intention of this is to start your hands moving around in this rudiment.
Remember, you hands will always be playing a 7 stroke roll sticking in all exercises on this page. I have included feet in all exercises, it may be worth removing them whilst you are learning the orchestration then adding them back in later. Experiment with using different feet patterns from our previous lessons. I have also included the two different timings of the rudiment, one starting on the beat and one ending on the beat.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.
- Create your own orchestrations using this concept. Write down at least 2 of these.
- Experiment with different feet patterns in each exercise.
