Sixteenth Note 7 Stroke Roll Moving In Minim Blocks

This lessons follows on from our 16th Note 5 Stroke Roll Sticking and Seven Stroke Roll With Each Hand On A Different Drum lessons. It will be much easier to follow if you are familiar with the content from that lesson.

In this 16th note 7 stroke roll orchestration concept the rudiment will be played around the kit switching voice on beat 3. For example, in the first exercise the first instance of the rudiment is played on the snare and the second on the high tom. Another way to think of this is to use a different voice each time the rudiment starts. This is a relatively simple orchestration, the intention of which is to start your hands moving around in this rudiment.

Remember, you hands will always be playing a 7 stroke roll sticking in all exercises on this page. In the later exercises the single stroke will move more than once in the bar. I have included feet in all exercises, it may be worth removing them whilst you are learning the orchestration then adding them back in later. Experiment with using different feet patterns from our previous lessons. I have also included the two different timings of the rudiment, one starting on the beat and one ending on the beat.
