Sixteenth Note 5 Stroke Roll With Quarter Note Cymbals

This lessons follows on from our 16th Note 5 Stroke Roll Sticking and Five Stroke Roll With Each Hand On A Different Drum lessons. It will be much easier to follow if you are familiar with the content from that lesson. The movement is also very similar to our Moving Singles lesson for this rudiment.

In this 16th note 5 stroke roll orchestration concept the rudiment will be played with the double strokes on a drum and the quarter note on a cymbal. For example, in the first exercise the doubles are playing snares and the quarter note single is on a right hand side crash. This is a relatively simple orchestration, the intention of which is to start your hands moving around in this rudiment.

Remember, you hands will always be playing a 5 stroke roll sticking in all exercises on this page. I have included feet in all exercises, it may be worth removing them whilst you are learning the orchestration then adding them back in later. The parts will sound best with a kick drum under the cymbals. Experiment with using different feet patterns from our previous lessons. I have also included the two different timings of the rudiment, one starting on the beat and one ending on the beat.
