Swiss Army Triplet With Quarter Note Cymbal Accents

A triplet orchestration exercise where an orchestrated accent is added on every beat of the bear.

In this lesson you will be learning a simple accent placements within the swiss army triplet. In all of the exercises presented on this page you will only be accenting on the numbered counts on cymbals, which will fall on the unison note. To achieve this the right hand is going to move to another voice whilst the left, and every note after that first note, stay on the snare. Remember when accenting to make the note with the '>' symbol above it louder than the rest. You can achieve this by lifting your stick slightly higher than normal and pushing down with it a little more. A second lesson a similar topic is given where these accents are moved to toms.

The movements in these exercises can get very tricky, particularly when the tempo gets higher. Start the parts off slowly then gradually increase speed as you get more comfortable with the note placement. You will soon notice that your right hand is going to be jumping about all over the place. When you reach the higher tempos these orchestrations sound great. When done properly you will have a constant eighth note snare playing through the whole bar with those additional accents coming in through the bar.

Various different combinations of quarter note accent have been given below and feet have been included with all exercises. If the feet are throwing you off feel free to remove them until you are comfortable with the hand part. Remember to use the swiss army triplet 'Both Right Left' sticking throughout.
