Build a two bar 5/8 groove using an inappropriate sixteenth note rhythm.
Through this lesson you will learn a two bar groove in 5/8 that is based around a '1e+' sixteenth note grouping on the right hand. There will be five modifications made to a start groove, each of which makes an already unusual part more difficult. It is also worth noting that each step creates its own perfectly decent sounding groove. In each step, a link to the original lesson of the concept applied is provided where appropriate, it is worth sidetracking and working through these lessons if you either get stuck or don't understand a particular step.
It's important you can play the step you are on comfortably at a decent tempo before progressing as any parts you get stuck on are going to appear in all subsequent steps. The start point uses a Compound Feel in the time signature of 5/8. Over this the right hand is going to play a '1e+' sixteenth note rhythm, all on the ride. In the lesson linked below I discuss how this rhythm in this time signature creates a cool syncopated feel.
Re-Orchestrate the snares on counts 4 of both bars to Floor Toms. As you are playing the right hand on the ride cymbal there won't be any awkward cross overs here.
Move the first note of each semi quaver grouping to the bell of the ride. This really highlights the syncopated nature of the rhythm.
To reinforce the compound time feel, add kicks on the 3 counts of both bars.
Then decorate those new kicks by placing a Second Kick on the '+' after counts 2.
Then add another kick On The '+' after count 4, which is immediately after the floor tom strike.
