A simple level 1 2 bar groove using 2 right hand concepts.
Through this lesson ou will learn a two bar groove in 4/4 that switches between two distinctly different concepts. There will be five modifications made to the base part, each of which makes the part slightly more difficult. It is also worth noting that each example creates its own perfectly decent sounding groove. In each step, a link to the original lesson of the concept applied is provided where appropriate, it is worth sidetracking and working through these lessons if you either get stuck or don't understand a particular step.
It's important you can play the step you are on comfortably at a decent tempo before progressing as any parts you get stuck on are going to appear in all subsequent steps. At the bottom of the page you will find a list of helpful links and a set of target tempos.
As an additional exercise, try taking the concepts given and applying them in different ways. For example, the base part switches from double time to common time so try uses some different timings. Continue through all steps with these changes and write down any ideas you like the sound of.
NOTE that the file size of this pack is 15MB.
You'll start out by playing a bar of Double Time with the right hand on the hi hat followed by a bar of common time with the right hand on the Floor Tom. The right hand will play the same rhythm through both bars despite the change in timing and orchestration.
The double time bar is decorated with a Simple Sixteenth Note kick part. This completes the first bar.
Add a kick On The 'a' after counts 1 and 3 during the second bar.
Add a kick On The 'e' after counts 2 and 4 during the second bar.
Add a high tom with the left hand On The 'e' after count 1 of the second bar.
On the '+ a' after count 2 of the second bar you will add a movement on the floor tom and high tom that follows a Flat Flam sticking.
