A simple four bar pattern based around this syncopated back beat.
In this lesson you will be shown five simple 'AAAB' patterns in 6/8, all of which are built around a dotted eighth note back beat, giving them a syncopated/polymetric feel. The fills will be built to fit around this feel also. The point of these exercises is to both improve your playing in this feel and time signature and to give you some ideas for applying these parts practically. At the bottom of the page you will find some useful links that will help the learning process.
Use all given examples as a starting point to create your own versions of the part.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.
- Create your own versions of these patterns based on the original phrase.
