Crashes In An 'And 1' Pattern

In this lesson I will be presenting a very similar idea to the 4 - 1 Crash Placement concept only you will be moving the first crash from the '4' to the '+' that follows it. This gives you two eighth note crashes in a row. Again, this is quite a simple fill that allows these two beats to be subtly accented creatin a 'leading in' effect.

I'll start by showing the concept with both eighth and quarter note right hands in common, half and double time. I will then provide a short piece to demonstrate the idea being used practically. As discussed in the lesson linked above, it doesn't matter which part of the kit the right hand is riding on as the concept will always fit. Which crashes you use and what order you use them in also isn't set in stone, use the sound you like the most.

In most grooves beat 1 will have a kick drum played but the '+' after 4 can have anything you like. Various ideas are shown. In all examples, the second bar will generally be the start of a new phrase.
