Replacing the usual 'B' section with a fill in 3/4.
This lesson will follow the structure discussed in the 'A A A B' lesson only this time the 'B' section will be in 3/4. The aim here is to further improve your ability to move through different time signatures and to provide more ideas for fills in 3/4.
The structure for this exercise will look like this:
Written below are five examples of parts you could play for this structured pattern. In all examples the 'B' is a Fill In 3/4. A note on how the 'B' section has been constructed is included.
A simple roll around the kit in gruops of four.
Using snares and crashes on all numbered counts.
Playing a shorter roll around the kit in groups of two.
Using a 16th note grouping with crashes and toms.
Using eighth note triplets.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
- Create your own versions of these patterns.
