A A A B Exercises Using Sixteenth Note Fills

Four bar phrases using an A A A B structure to help develop your ability to switch from groove to sixteenth note fills.

These lessons expand on our A A A B Exercises Using Eighth Note Fills by replacing the eighth notes in the fills with sixteenth notes. Again, the aim here is to improve your ability to switch from groove to fill and back again without any breaks in timing. Play the exercises along to a metronome to ensure the your are getting the timing right. It may also be worth learning the fill before attempting to play the full pattern.

The percentage sign repeat mark has been used here to stop the notation getting squashed.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all phrases up to a tempo of at least 120bpm.
  2. Create your own versions of these patterns.

I recommend trying our 8th Note Rhythmic Fills or Groove Based Fills next.
