Foot Speed Using 16th Note Groupings On The Feet - Rhythm 1

In this lesson you will be using some Semi Quaver Groupings with your feet to create patterns that are quite demanding in terms of speed and stamina. Whilst you are playing these groupings on the feet, your hands will be doing a variety of different things to mix up the patterns. At the bottom of the page you will find a list of other lessons that develop this area of playing in a similar way.

In this lesson you will be using this grouping. Five exercises using this rhythm are given below.

Exercise 1

Here you a playing straight 16ths on the hand. Notice that for the sticking I have included single strokes, double strokes and paradiddles. Don't be afraid to use this as a foot pattern under other rudiments.

Exercise 2

Here you are playing flat flams on the hand in the same rhythm as the feet.

Exercise 3

This is a simple groove pattern with lots of space around the fast kick drums.

Exercise 4

A slightly tougher groove pattern where the rhythm is split between the kick and snare whilst the hi hat maintains eighth notes.

Exercise 5

Finally, the kick plays the rhythm constantly while the hands play the groove pattern.
